Why Does It Seem Like Paul Is Mentioning Three Miraculous Gifts As Only Ceasing?

1 Corinthians 12:4-11 mentions nine miraculous gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed among the early church for edification and maturity. Yet 1 Corinthians 13:8-13 mentions only three miraculous gifts as ceasing: prophecies, tongues, and knowledge. Why?

Have The Roles Of Men And Women Established In The Old Testament Become Obsolete?

Some have made the argument that the roles of men and women established in the Old Testament have become obsolete because we are no longer under the Mosaic law. They will even point out that Paul stated that the roles of men and women were rooted in “the law” (1 Corinthians 14:34,35).

Who Is Authorized to Preside Over and Serve The Lord's Supper?

In order to worship God and assume our God-given roles acceptable to Him, we must do everything as authorized by the Lord by abiding by His word. If we love Him, we will humbly submit to that will (Colossians 3:17; John 14:15). The question before us is: Who can preside over and serve the Lord's Supper? Can Christian women preside over the Lord's table? Can it be the case that a Christian man leads the prayer for the emblems, yet the women be able to serve the emblems? Does the Bible answer those questions?

What Does Baptism For The Dead Mean?

In the great resurrection chapter (1 Corinthians 15), Paul states on the subject something that is very perplexing and confusing to a lot of people who study the Scriptures in 1 Corinthians 15:29: "Otherwise, what will they do who are baptized for the dead, if the dead do not rise at all? Why then are they baptized for the dead?" The Latter-Day Saints will take this verse out of its context and apply it to a present-day religious practice (proxy baptism - a living person is baptized on behalf of a person who has already died so that they can receive salvation) that God never intended.

Is Paul Teaching That Water Immersion Is Not Essential?

It is very clear from the Scriptures that water immersion is an essential component that is a part of how God saves an alien sinner/non-Christian from his/her sins (Mark 16:15,16; Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 2:38; 8:35-39; 10:47; 19:1-7; 22:16; 1 Corinthians 12:13; Romans 6:3,4; Galatians 3:26,27; 1 Peter 3:21). Some teachers though have proposed from 1 Corinthians 1:17 that Paul downplays water immersion and excludes it from the gospel plan of salvation. Is Paul teaching that water immersion is not essential?

Where Does It Refer To Christ's Bodily Resurrection In The Old Testament On The Third Day?

1 Corinthians 15:2-3 states: “For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures.”

What Does “Because Of The Angels” Mean In 1 Corinthians 11:10?

“Now I praise you, brethren, that you remember me in all things and keep the traditions just as I delivered them to you. But I want you to know that the head of every man is Christ, the head of woman is man, and the head of Christ is God. Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonors his head.

If “The Law” In 1 Corinthians 15:56 Is In Reference To The Law of Moses, Does This Mean That “Covenant Eschatology” Is True?

This question can be broken down into two questions. The first question is: “Is ‘the law’ in 1 Corinthians 15:56 a reference to the law of Moses?” The second question is: “Does this mean that covenant eschatology is true?”

What Does The Bible Say About Cremation?

Cremate means: “to reduce (a dead body) to ashes by fire, especially as a funeral rite.” The Bible does not bind any particular rule or principle as to what to do with a dead body (Matthew 16:19). Is it to be buried six feet deep? Is it to be burned and then the ashes placed in an urn? There is nothing within New Testament authority that indicates what to do (John 12:48; Colossians 3:17).

Does Paul Contradict Himself On The Purpose of The Gift of Prophecy and Tongue-Speaking?

In 1 Corinthians 14, Paul issues commands on how members of the Corinthian church are to use their miraculous gifts in the assembly. They were to not abuse the gifts; instead, they were to utilize their gifts with the goal of promoting edification in the church (1 Corinthians 14:1-4).

Does 1 Corinthians 10:20-21 And James 2:19 Apply Today In Reference To Demons?

When it comes to rightly dividing God’s word (2 Timothy 2:15), a worker must distinguish between the temporary and the permanent when applicable. In the first century A.D. there were evil spirits called demons who inhabited the physical bodies of human beings. God allowed Satan (and his “angels”, Matthew 25:41) to have this type of power during that temporary period of time. One purpose of demon exorcism was to demonstrate that Jesus, as the Son of God, had power in the spiritual realm as well as the other realms (Matthew 12:25–29). This was not to remain permanent (thus indicates the principal of Mark 16:20; 1 Corinthians 13:8-10).

Does 1 Corinthians 7:10,11 Grant Permission For Divorce?

Absolutely not!

1 Corinthians 7:10,11: “Now to the married I command, yet not I but the Lord: A wife is not to depart from her husband. But even if she does depart, let her remain unmarried or be reconciled to her husband. And a husband is not to divorce his wife.”

Is A Spouse Still Married “In The Eyes of God” When He/She Divorces Her Spouse For Unscriptural Reasons?

No.

We must speak as the oracles/utterances of God (1 Peter 4:11). This man-made phrase “married in the eyes of God” is a foreign idea to the Scriptures. The Bible makes a distinction between being “bound” (Romans 7:1-4; 1 Corinthians 7:39,40) and being “married.” The wife is not "still married in the eyes of God" when she divorces her husband. She is unmarried as 1 Corinthians 7:11 states, “let her remain unmarried”. She is still bound to her spouse though (Romans 7:1-4).
