Article - The Cowardly Will Go to Hell

According to Revelation 21:8 the cowardly “shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone.” The cowardly include disciples of Jesus who have “little faith” which in essence amounts to “no faith” because Jesus expects His disciples to have strong
faith/full trust in Him (Matthew 8:25-26; Mark 4:40; John 14:27). God has not given the faithful Christian a spirit of fear/cowardice (2 Timothy 1:7). Yet, there are cowards rampant among many churches today. For instance, (1) there is a shortage of faithful gospel preachers and elders because able men are too scared to become evangelists or elders (thus committing the sin of omission AND being cowardly, James 4:17); also, many preachers are too scared to preach the whole counsel of God for fear they will lose their salary or popularity; and elders/men are too scared to feed the flock with all the gospel truth for fear they will lose some members (Acts 20:27-28; 2 Timothy 4:1-5; John 6:66); (2) there is a decaying of local bodies of Christ whose lampstands may soon be removed because the men of the church are tolerant of sin and are too scared to lead and discipline members who continue in sin (1 Corinthians 5; Revelation 2:5; Proverbs 27:5); (3) there is a fading of God’s woman because women are too cowardly to assume their God-given role of exercising modesty in the assembly (and outside) and learning in silence (instead, some of these women act like they are “she-elders”, try to dominate mixed Bible classes, 1 Timothy 2:9-15 and refuse to teach the younger women, Titus 2:3-5); and (4) the foundation of a strong home and thus a strong church is shaken because men are too cowardly to be the head of their wives and the spiritual leaders of their children; so that they can rule their households well (which is one of the qualifications of being an elder in the church, Ephesians 5:23; 6:4; 1 Timothy 3:1-7). It is time to repent. Turn your fear into (strong) faith and your cowardice into courage AND contend earnestly for the faith (Jude 1:3; Revelation 2:10)! Otherwise, hell is going to be full of cowardly Christians.
