Article - There is Only One Side to Truth (part 2)
We would expect the world to view truth as subjective; but it is even more disheartening when we learn that some Christians today conveniently embrace the same view. For example, I attended a funeral of an atheist where his Christian son told the audience that the only thing lacking in his father’s life was the failure to obey the gospel. He later stated in the ceremony that he hoped his father’s soul rested in peace and that God would have mercy on his soul. The subjective and emotional “truth” says, “Maybe a good moral atheist will still go to heaven”, but the objective truth of God’s word says that Jesus will come “in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. These shall be punished with everlasting punishment from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power” (2 Thessalonians 1:3-9). It has almost become impossible to communicate God’s truth with the average member of the church due to subjective thinking becoming the norm. For instance, a faithful Christian man strives to save his marriage; yet his spouse commits adultery against him (Romans 12:18). The faithful Christian exercises his right to scripturally put away his wife for her fornication (Matthew 5:32; 19:9). Upon finding out about the incident, some members of the church start reciting worldly philosophies, such as, “Now you know there are two sides to every story…I’m sure the man was not guiltless…he probably drove his wife to commit adultery”, etc. Emotions aside and scripture in front: Adultery is not a matter of opinion and a scriptural divorce is not a matter of opinion. When it comes to matters of opinion, there may be different sides and different interpretations. But when it comes to matters of faith, there are not two sides to any story, but only one side (Romans 10:17; 14:23; 2 Corinthians 5:7). There is only one side to truth! It is time we put to death our carnal, worldly minds and put on the spiritual mind of Christ (Acts 17:11; Romans 8:6-8; 12:2; 1 Corinthians 2:16; Philippians 2:5; 3:18-19; 4:8; Colossians 3:1-10; 2 Timothy 2:15)!
