PARENTS: BEWARE!! A new toyshop may be coming to your area. However, this is not the kind of toyshop you want your children near. Pornographic toy and movie shops are opening up in areas all around us. For every parent, husband or wife this can only mean trouble for families. Let us notice two reasons why we as citizens should stand up and speak out against these pervert havens.
First, pornography is devastating to the Christian family. Dr. William Marshall & the Canadian Department of Federal Justice, has noted that 87% of child molesters of girls and 77% of child molesters of boys admit to the use of pornography. Parent, how does it make you feel to know that this store may contribute to the number of sexual molestation cases in Ardmore? Dr. Marshall also showed that 87% of convicted rapists admit to regular use of pornography while 56% use it in the commission of their crimes. Women, how does it make you feel to know that this store may be increasing the number of violent cases of rape in our community? Another study has shown that in 36 serial murderers interviewed by the FBI, 81% also admitted using pornography (Victor Cline, Ph.D.). Is this really what our community needs? We have enough sexually related crimes as it is. The addition of this pornographic store to our community will only fuel the ungodly tendencies of rapists, child molesters, and murderers. We must speak out against these ungodly stores.
In addition, pornography is devastating to the Christian life. A Christian cannot be faithful to God and be involved in pornography. The Bible only condones sexual activity between a husband and wife (Hebrews 13:4). Anything else is a sin, including the viewing of pornography. Jesus condemned pornography when He said, “…I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart” (Matthew 5:28). The Bible commands the Christian to think on things that are good, noble, and upright (Philippians 4:6-8). In the long ago, the Proverb writer saw the affects of evil thinking when he said, “as a man thinks in his heart so is he” (Proverbs 23:7). If a person continually thinks about ungodly sexual acts and views pornographic material he will eventually become what he thinks about. May God help each Christian to never ever view pornography!
This article should serve as a wake up call to every concerned religious person. We must stand up and be heard when it comes to keeping pornographic stores out of our towns. May God give us the courage to stand up and speak out (Ephesians 5:11)!
