Is Sprinkling or Pouring Baptism?
Though the modern-day English dictionary word "baptism" gives the meaning, "pouring, sprinkling, or immersion", according to New Testament Greek dictionaries and the New Testament there is only one acceptable and authorized mode of baptism and that is immersion. Sprinkling and pouring are not true modes of baptism.
Water baptism is a symbolic representation of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ by which we are crucifying our old man (repentance), burying that old man of sin and thus hav ing our sins washed away by the blood of Jesus, and being raised a new creation in Christ (Galatians 2:20; Acts 17:30; Revelation 1:5; Acts 22:16; 2 Corinthians 5:17; Romans 6:3,4,17).
Romans 6:3,4 states: "Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life." Phillip and the eunuch both went down into the water because that was necessary for Philip to immerse him (see Acts 8:38).
Colossians 2:11,12 states: "In Him you were also circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the sins of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead."
If you were sprinkled with water or water was poured on you, then you were not baptized into Christ. Please render your faith and obedience to God's true plan of salvation as found in His word.
